Thimbleberry
$8.00
Rubus parviflorus
A thornless, rhizome-spreading native, distinct from true raspberry. Broad, maple-like leaves in place of compound leaflets, and canes with no prickles at all! Large white flowers, 1-2 in. across, appear on second-year canes, followed by soft, deep red berries that slip cleanly off the core when ripe, leaving the hollow, thimble-like shape that gives the plant its name. Flavor is tart with a hint of sweetness; berries ripen quickly, usually within about five days, in late July. Extremely hardy, thriving to Zone 3 and colder.
12 - 18 inch plants.
