Ribes nigrum.  Released in 1972 by the Scottish Horticultural Research Institute, the first and founding variety of the influential “Ben” series. Large, glossy berries grow in heavy clusters on short strigs, with an excellent sweet-tart balance; freezes well. Late-flowering blossom generally escapes spring frost damage, and the plant carries decent resistance to mildew, though it can still be an issue in damp or shaded sites. Compact, spreading, self-fertile, and a heavy yielder. Mature height is about 5 feet; space 4-6 feet.

2-4 foot plants at shipment.
