Found around 1876 on David Flory's farm in Cass County, Indiana, and introduced commercially in 1890 by Greening Brothers Nursery of Michigan — sometimes sold as the Flory apple. Smooth, waxy yellow skin with a pink blush. Coarse-grained, crisp, melting flesh with a banana-like aroma layered over a juicy, sweet-tart apple flavor. Best sliced rather than bitten into. The flavor fades with cooking or storage. Self-sterile, but widely planted as a reliable pollinizer for other varieties.
